Why Choose Custom Cabinets
Stock cabinets are built to standard dimensions that rarely match the reality of your kitchen, bathroom, or utility room. Walls are not perfectly square, ceilings vary in height, and every home has quirks that off-the-shelf products cannot accommodate. Custom cabinets solve that problem by starting from your exact measurements and building outward from there.
At Double LL Woodworking, every cabinet project begins with an in-home consultation where Larry takes precise measurements of your space, discusses your storage needs, and walks you through wood species, door styles, and hardware options. There are no catalogs to flip through and no preset configurations. Your cabinets are designed from scratch for the way you actually use your kitchen or bathroom.
Materials and Construction
We build cabinet boxes from furniture-grade plywood with solid hardwood face frames, doors, and drawer fronts. Joinery is traditional mortise-and-tenon or dovetail depending on the application, not the cam-lock fasteners found in factory-made cabinets. Every drawer rides on full-extension soft-close slides, and every door hinge is a six-way adjustable soft-close unit that can be fine-tuned after installation.
Wood species options include white oak, walnut, maple, cherry, and hickory. We also work with reclaimed wood for clients who want character and history in their kitchen. Finish options range from natural clear coats that let the grain speak for itself to custom stain-and-lacquer combinations matched to your existing trim or flooring.
The Build Process
After the design consultation, we produce detailed shop drawings for your approval. Once signed off, material sourcing and milling begin. Cabinet boxes are assembled in our workshop, doors and drawer fronts are built and finished separately, and everything is dry-fitted before final finishing. This process ensures a perfect fit when installation day arrives.
Installation typically takes one to three days depending on the scope of the project. Larry handles every installation personally, shimming, leveling, and adjusting each cabinet until the fit is seamless. Crown molding, scribe pieces, and filler strips are custom-cut on site to account for the small variations in every home.
